Daisy Goodwin does again. This time she brings her readers Victoria. Victoria has been living a sheltered life. She was kept trapped within the walls of her home. Her mother wouldn't let her go out and socialize with people. Victoria doesn't know much of the world outside her own home. When she comes queen at the age of eighteen, Victoria finds a chance to create her own life. As Victoria is trying to figure out her own life, she is reminded of her responsibilities of queen.
I really liked Goodwin's glimpse of Victoria's life. She creates this beautiful story of a young girl trying to find her way in the world. I think so many of us feel that way growing up and gaining more responsibility. Just in Victoria's case, she is becoming queen. Goodwin did a great job with this story and giving her reads an insight on Victoria's young life. I think it is wonderful showing the struggles that Victoria has with finding her new found freedom.
Victoria's relationship with Lord Melbourne was definitely an interesting one to read into. The guy is way too old for Victoria but she is falling for her. I was curious to see what would happen with this friendship/relationship/work relationship. It was a weird situation. I think it made the story interesting and I definitely wanted to know what would happen with Victoria because she is betrothed to Prince Albert.
I think Goodwin did a great job with this novel. I really enjoyed getting to know Victoria more and seeing more into her life. Goodwin's writing is fantastic. I'm always impressed with the story and her characters. I look forward to seeing what Goodwin has for us next.
