I think "The Dragon of the Month Club" by Iain Reading was a very cute read. I think that "The Dragon of the Month Club" can be enjoyed by any type of reader, but I foudn that it is geared more to Middle Grade than Young Adult. Ayana and Tyler discover a book that has a spell in it that will summon a dragon each moth. This starts as some harmless fun for the two of them until a dragon transports them into another book that was lying open on Tyler's bed. Now they have to find their way back home.
There was a few times that things were a bit rough for the reader. The worlds didn't completely flow very well together. I feel like the characters weren't completely given entire depths to their personalities. It seemed like the characters were a bit wishy-washy to me also. Things I liked about the characters though was how genuine their friendship was with each other and how sweet they acted.
It seems like there was a lot of research put into this book especially for all the world building that Reading did. Having the story take place in the world of "Dune" and the world of "Sherlock Holmes." I think it was a lot of fun reading the Sherlock Holmes part. Sherlock Holmes is a classic favorite. I thought this was well done. This is definitely a book I would recommend to the middle grade age but not teens.
