Dazzled by Books

"Night Sky" by Suzanne and Melanie Brockmann is a new YA paranormal series. "Night Sky" has a little bit of everything in it. Skylar is your average teenager and she an overprotective mom and a pretty normal teenage night. Skylar babysits a girl named Sasha a few nights a week, so when Sasha goes missing everything changes. Skylar begins to learn who she truly is and that she is what is called a "greater-than." This means that she has extra skills that most humans don't have. It is an elite group of gifted people. Skylar seems to have the majority of the powers that most "greater-thans" have. "Night Sky" is about Skylar's journey to save Sasha.

The characters in "Night Sky" were great. I enjoyed getting to know each and every one of them. I think the characters were developed extremely well. Brockmann's provided the characters with great back stories. The reader can tell that the characters were written with great care to be given a wonderful dimension.

The disappointing part of this book was how juvenile it is. I feel like this book comes across younger than even young adults. The way the book is written just seems to be written for younger people. There is very little romance to the story. Everything is pretty low key as far as the romance goes. I can't say that I was completely impressed but I don't think this novel was bad either. Hopefully maybe the rest of the series will turn out better than what we currently have.
