Hi Everyone! This is Livia Blackburne, and I’m thrilled to share ROSEMARKED with you at long last. There are a lot of elements to this book, including a love story, a spy story, reflections on trauma and mortality, medical ethics, and political intrigue.  Perhaps because of this, my research for the book was equally eclectic, from archery and stick fighting lessons, to chats with memory researchers and soldiers, and lots and lots of reading, including books about leper colonies, hospice care, and PTSD. Hopefully, I wove it all into an entertaining and thought-provoking story! This story centers on Zivah, a […]

My Teaser: The potion is the easy part. Perhaps that’s why I spend all my time on it, obsessively refining my mixtures, rather than face the last issue I must settle before I leave. I’ve not yet told my family. I don’t know what I’ll say, and I’m not prepared for their reactions, especaily since I cannot tell them the whole truth.. they’ll be safer if they don’t know the real reason for my quest. To them, I’ll simply be studying and serving in the rosemarked colony as a healer. Finally, with a few days left to spare, I gather […]

Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken is so good! I devoured it so fast. Etta Spencer lost the one thing that could help her save the timeline and she doesn’t know where she is. She ended up somewhere in history but doesn’t know what time period she is in. Then Etta receives help from Julian Ironwood. The Julian Ironwood that is supposed to be dead. Etta finds herself in a power struggle between the major two traveling families. While Etta is trying to figure out her situation, Nicholas and Sophia are trying to track Etta down. Everyone is searching for the astrolobe […]

My Teaser: Etta limped over to him, peering trough the darkness to see what was below-a boatman, as it turned out, in one of three rowboats tied up to the small dock, smoking as if he didn’t have a care in the world. The trail of smoke curled up toward them, a wriggling wisp of white. About love2dazzle Ali Kiki is a reader, writer, reviewer, blogger, and photographer in Portland, OR. A List of Cages by Robin Roe is heartbreaking. This story is so incredibly good. Be prepared to go on an emotional roller coaster ride. Julian’s parents died and a foster family takes him in. Julian gets used to this foster family and really begins to love him, but the he gets stripped away from them to live with his closest relative. Now Julian is a high school freshman and life is completely awful for him. School is hard because Julian has several learning disabilities and the teachers aren’t willing to help him. Julian ends up getting bullied a lot […]

A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston

A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston

A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston is based on the story of the same name. This is a retelling. Johnston went with more of a magic feel with this book. I think that the story line could have been planned a little better. I wasn’t as engrossed into the story as I would have wanted to be. A Thousand Nights is very slow-paced but yet thoughtful in how it brings its point across. I really liked how Johnston creates anonymous characters. Everyone is unnamed except Lo-Melkhiin and I think this is a very unique way to write this story. Another […]

Waiting on Wednesday: The Amateurs- I really liked Sara Shepard’s “Lying Game” books. I am looking forward to this one. I hope it is fun like her “Lying Game” books because I could use a good fun drama book.   About love2dazzle Ali Kiki is a reader, writer, reviewer, blogger, and photographer in Portland, OR. Book Review: Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schultz

Book Review: Hook’s Revenge by Heidi Schultz

“Hook’s Revenge” is such a cute story. This is one that shall not disappoint! This story is about Captain Hook’s daughter Jocelyn. She is such a spunky character. I loved her to pieces. Jocelyn is sent to a school for girls to be taught how to be a proper lady but the only thing that Jocelyn wants to be is a proper pirate. Schulz does a great job in bringing Jocelyn to life for her readers. I have read a lot of Peter Pan retellings and sequels and I have to say that “Hook’s Revenge” is one of the best. […]

My Teaser: Jocelyn shook her head and pulled her father’s letter from her dress pocket. Smee took one look at it and burst into sloppy, wet tears.
