Ali: Welcome Mimi, I want to start off by finding out what is your favorite book of 2015 so far? Mimi: I have a hard time choosing favorites, I love so many books, but I can tell you that in the past month or so, I read two books that were published in 2015 that had me up reading in the middle of the […]

Hello, book lovers! Any author is lying if they tell you that their characters are purely fiction. Of course we draw from people in our past, and of course we do that more when a boy is involved. When crafting Charlie Sanders—the golden boy of the DEAD RINGER world—I took inspiration from five of the most memorable guys of my past. Here (despite all my crazy nerves) are five of Charlie’s qualities and exactly who inspired them. Charlie Sanders, soccer star My middle school boyfriend Jon was a complete soccer phenomenon. He played on a ton of traveling teams and […]

Ali: Hello Marie, Thank you for taking the time to stop by Dazzled by Books today. Let’s kick things off with what is your favorite book of 2015 so far? Marie: There are so many! I’m going to cheat. In YA, Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by the amazing (and so very kind) Becky Albertalli.  In adult fiction, it’s Make Your Home Among Strangers by Jennine Capó Crucet. Such a beautiful coming of age story. A: Did you always want to be a writer? M: No. But I’ve always loved telling stories. I’ve written a lot of academic […]

Interview: Ali: Did you always want to be a writer? Anna-Marie: It took me a while to realize I wanted to be a writer, but I’ve always loved stories. Ali: What inspires your writing? Anna-Marie: My family, the beautiful cultures I grew up in, and the work of other artists, not just books but visual art, music, and so much more. Ali: What is your favorite thing about writing “The Weight of Feathers“? Anna-Marie: I loved writing the descriptions of the Palomas’ and the Corbeaus’ shows. Immersing myself in that world felt like a kind of magic. Ali: Do you […]

Ali: How did you know Grace and Josh’s stories continued? Lisa: I knew the second I finished the book that their story wasn’t done. Cam’s was, but there was too much about Heaven and Hell in this world that made their futures (and all our futures) uncertain. They may be in Heaven now, but that doesn’t mean their lives are perfect! I also knew that Keira had more to say. Ali: Do you think Josh and Grace belong together? Lisa: This is the same answer I gave before and it still holds true: Every relationship goes through ups and downs, […]

Ali: What is your favorite book of 2015 so far? Brad: I loved Eric McCormack’s “Cloud.” There’s something in his fiction… the descriptions take the day-to-day and turn them into beautiful fantasy. But I think that book technically came out at the end of last year. One I’m dying to read that comes out later this year is Rupert Thomson’s “Katherine Carlyle.” There’s always something different going on in Mr. Thomson’s work but it’s always fantastic. Ali: Did you always want to be a writer? Brad: I’ve always written. My first book was dedicated to Mrs. Buckingham who was a […]

Ali: What is your favorite book of 2015 so far? Sandra: I just read Blackout by Sarah Hepola. Great book. Memory is such a fascinating topic, and her take on missing memory (by virtue of a drunken hippocampus) manages to be both witty and profound at the same time. Ali: Did you always want to be a writer? Sandra: It sounds cliché, but yes, I always wanted to be a writer. I remember in fourth grade lying on the sidewalk and writing on a slip of paper about a plane marking across the sky like chalk. My mom said, “You’re […]

Interview with Shari Ali: Hey Shari! Thank you for joining us today for a quick interview. I look forward to getting to know you better. To start things off, what is your favorite book of 2015 so far? Shari: I’m embarrassed to say that I’m still catching up on 2014 books. Am I allowed to choose one of those? If I can, I’d have to say that I loved Jandy Nelsen’s“I’ll Give You the Sun.” The voice in that book is just mind-blowing. From 2015, I really enjoyed “I’ll Meet You There,” by Heather Demetrios. I think Josh is one of […]
