From Jay Asher, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Thirteen Reasons Why, comes a romance that will break your heart, but soon have you believing again. . . . Sierra's family runs a Christmas tree farm in Oregon—it's a bucolic setting for a girl to grow up in, except that every year, they pack up and move to California to set up their Christmas tree lot for the season. So Sierra lives two lives: her life in Oregon and her life at Christmas. And leaving one always means missing the other.
Until this particular Christmas, when Sierra meets Caleb, and one life eclipses the other.
By reputation, Caleb is not your perfect guy: years ago, he made an enormous mistake and has been paying for it ever since. But Sierra sees beyond Caleb's past and becomes determined to help him find forgiveness and, maybe, redemption. As disapproval, misconceptions, and suspicions swirl around them, Caleb and Sierra discover the one thing that transcends all else: true love.
What Light is a love story that's moving and life-affirming and completely unforgettable.
What Light by Jay Asher is a perfect holiday read. I found that I very much enjoyed Sierra and Caleb. I loved that this story takes place in my two favorite states, California and Oregon.
Sierra’s family owns a tree farm in Oregon but every winter they travel to California to sell their Christmas trees. This may be the last eyar that Sierra and her family come to California to sell their trees.
When Sierra meets Caleb everything becomes complicated. She can’t decide if she wants to open up to him. Sierra has never taken a chance like that with anyone. Caleb has a very complicated life. He made a mistake when he was very young and he continues to pay for it.
Caleb is constantly coming to the tree lot to purchase trees for others. I really love how this is the first thing that Sierra learns about him. This is a book that focuses on the little things and I really like that.
The characters are great. I really enjoyed getting to know Caleb and Sierra. I adore these two. The friendships with the supporting characters is amazing. The minor characters has a huge presence and a good amount of page time. I felt like I really got to know each character well.
What Light is a very fast pace story. I am pretty sure I breezed through it in a day. This is an adorable contemporary that every should read. If you read during Christmas time than that is a bonus.
