Twelve-year-old Jocelyn dreams of becoming every bit as daring as her infamous father, Captain James Hook. Her grandfather, on the other hand, intends to see her starched and pressed into a fine society lady. When she's sent to Miss Eliza Crumb-Biddlecomb's Finishing School for Young Ladies, Jocelyn's hopes of following in her father's fearsome footsteps are lost in a heap of dance lessons, white gloves, and way too much pink.So when Jocelyn receives a letter from her father challenging her to avenge his untimely demise at the jaws of the Neverland crocodile, she doesn't hesitate-here at last is the adventure she has been waiting for. But Jocelyn finds that being a pirate is a bit more difficult than she'd bargained for. As if attempting to defeat the Neverland's most fearsome beast isn't enough to deal with, she's tasked with captaining a crew of woefully untrained pirates, outwitting cannibals wild for English cuisine, and rescuing her best friend from a certain pack of lost children, not to mention that pesky Peter Pan who keeps barging in uninvited. The crocodile's clock is always ticking in Heidi Schulz's debut novel, a story told by an irascible narrator who is both dazzlingly witty and sharp as a sword. Will Jocelyn find the courage to beat the incessant monster before time runs out?

“Hook’s Revenge” is such a cute story. This is one that shall not disappoint! This story is about Captain Hook’s daughter Jocelyn. She is such a spunky character. I loved her to pieces. Jocelyn is sent to a school for girls to be taught how to be a proper lady but the only thing that Jocelyn wants to be is a proper pirate. Schulz does a great job in bringing Jocelyn to life for her readers.

I have read a lot of Peter Pan retellings and sequels and I have to say that “Hook’s Revenge” is one of the best. I was hooked right away. I don’t read a whole lot of middle grade books but this is definitely a series that I will go back too. I think Jocelyn is a character that people will love no matter what their age is. I love that a lot of the original Peter Pan characters show up in this novel. I think it brings a very fun element to the story. I love that Schulz put her own spin on the Peter Pan and Captain Hook legend.

One thing I really like about this book is it is told by a storyteller. I think this creates a very unique way to read. In a way this adds a whole different character to the story and I think he is just as entertaining as Jocelyn herself. I am looking forward to getting to know the narrator and Jocelyn more along with all of the other characters. If you like classic fairy tale retellings, this is definitely a book to get. It is so much fun.

If you ever have the chance to meet Heidi Schultz, take it! She is such a sweetheart. You is an author that every person should meet.
