The Sweetest Dark by Shana Abe is fantastic. I love Abe’s writing. She writes so beautifully. Lora is an amazing character. She came from an orphanage in London in the middle of World War I. Since all children are being sent out of London and Lora ends up being sent to Iverson. In Iverson there is an elite boarding school for girls that Lora ends up at. Lora thinks that it was complete luck that she ended up being able to attend this boarding school however it may have not been such a coincidence that she may have thought. The […]

The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts

The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts

I think I would have loved The Replacement Crush by Lisa Brown Roberts if I didn’t know the real world of blogging. This book was way too shallow for me. I found myself not entertained. Viv was a bit entertaining in the story. She spends the time trying to find a new crush to replace her old crush and well it was comical to me. I loved how Viv stuck to her guns and became who she wanted to be. Standing up for herself is the best thing that I could ever ask for. It was kind of cute to […]

Micaela returns to Sleepy Hollow after she mother dies. She recieved a letter days before her mothered died for her to return back to Sleepy Hollow. Micaela suspects that something is going on in this town. It makes it more suspicious that Micaela’s mother sent the letter to Micaela’s best friend and not to her. As Micaela learns more about what is going on in the town, she suspects more and more that her mother’s death was not an accident. I had a hard time trying to connect with any of the characters. It is hard to fall in love […]

Elementals: the Blood of the Hydra by Michelle Madow

Elementals: the Blood of the Hydra by Michelle Madow

Elementals: The Blood of the Hydra by Michelle Madow jumps right in where the last book ended. The story is so fast paced, it is hard to keep up at times. I wasn’t as impressed with book two as I was with book one. I feel like there is a little bit of the second book slump here. I was hoping to be completely engrossed like I was with the last book and that isn’t what happened. I feel like the group of friends was still great. They interact well with each other. My favorite thing about this series is […]

Why I am Waiting? I am waiting for Caraval because this book sounds so good. Stephanie Garber is such a sweetheart. I enjoy talking to her on twitter. I am even more anxious for this book because I pre-ordered a limited edition copy. I am excited to get that. I will get to meet Stephanie Garber in February which is also pretty awesome. A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston

A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston

A Thousand Nights by E. K. Johnston is based on the story of the same name. This is a retelling. Johnston went with more of a magic feel with this book. I think that the story line could have been planned a little better. I wasn’t as engrossed into the story as I would have wanted to be. A Thousand Nights is very slow-paced but yet thoughtful in how it brings its point across. I really liked how Johnston creates anonymous characters. Everyone is unnamed except Lo-Melkhiin and I think this is a very unique way to write this story. Another […]

My Teaser:  We stay quiet for a moment. The buildings on the edge of Manhattan look like a stage set, or someone’s scale model. They’re too perfect, too geometric to be real. Shadows of Men by M. Lee Holmes

Shadows of Men by M. Lee Holmes

Shadows of Men by M. Lee Holmes is very interesting. This book was not what I was expecting at all. I was a bit surprised to say the least. This book does have rape in it. I want to start that off and it has pretty graphic violence. There is your second warning before I begin this review. Shadows of Men starts with Viktor choosing his successor. The way a successor is chosen, is the sword chooses and then Viktor stabs the successor and then gives them their life back. It is a bit weird and gross but that is […]

The Secret Servant by Shanna Moncuse

The Secret Servant by Shanna Moncuse

The Secret Servant by Shanna Moncuse was a surprising read. Evangeline has been trained from a young age to guard Princess Kailani. While she is guarding Princess Kailani, Evangeline is supposed to take on the role of a servant girl. Evangeline is very loyal to her friend and princess. These two become as thick as thieves. So when the princesses life is in danger, Evangeline is quick to figure out who it is. I really liked the world that Moncuse has created. I think the world building could use a bit of work but ultimately it isn’t bad. I enjoyed […]
